I'd like to focus on a banned list for the moment. The list maintained at elderdragonhighlander.net

is focused on Multiplayer play and a "gentleman's agreement" of good conduct. It is very much

not designed for 1v1 competitive. Still, it's not a bad place to start. There are two lists that I

                                    know of that are designed for 1v1: the French list and MTGSalvation's list. Both lists can be found here:

                                    I'll give you the short version of both banlists. Cards like Kokusho, Balance, Coalition Victory,

Recurring Nightmare, and several others are *not* banned in 1v1. This is because either the

resource cost is too high without long multiplayer games (Coalition Victory), or the effects aren't

as devastating with only 2 players (Balance, Kokusho).

Added to the banlists are Crucible of Worlds, Mind Twist, Necropotence, Sol Ring, Sundering

Titan, and Mindslaver. The reasons should be obvious. (Though I can debate Titan.)

Important to remember is that we can, and probably should, create our own banlist to satisfy most

of the shop's EDH players. I think the 1v1 banlists are a good place to start, and we might consider

adding in some of the multiplayer banned cards (I'm looking at you, Balance).
